CURATOR'S NOTE

In this collection, Lisa Silverthorne combines fantasy and romance with time travel—sometimes in the same story. One of my personal favorites is here—"The Space Between Us"—which is romantic and turbulent and completely unforgettable. Just like all of Lisa's fiction. – Kristine Kathryn Rusch

The Space Between Us:

"Still going back," Skye insisted, crossing her arms against her black coat. "Don't you understand? I have to save him." The words came out small and tight.

She glanced at her wristwatch. Almost midnight.

Thea was awash in the full moon's frosty glow and gleam of Christmas lights that draped across the patio between the black cast iron lamp posts.

Waiting for midnight and the first burst of winter solstice magic.

Like a hurricane, it would propel Skye back to 1912. And return her like an avalanche at midnight on Christmas Day.

"But the magic may be too strong this time!" Thea grabbed her hands and held them tightly. "Not allowing you to change anything, Skye. There's too much that can go wrong this time with a whole town at stake."

Over Coffee and Christmas:

After four years of dark windows and austere rooms, Margaux decided to put up a tree – and bring out Warren's ceramic angel. For Uncle Roy and Warren. But still, the ache of Christmas music and the painful echoes of what could have been hurt. A lot.

Wincing, she moved toward the radio, to turn the channel to something without holiday music. She sighed. And unplug the Christmas tree. It was too much. Especially with all of her family at her sister's in California and her alone here.

Celebrating Christmas this year had been a dumb idea.

Statuesque:

Harper Bolton bought the San Juan Island cottage because she felt as haunted and abandoned as the hundred-and-ten-year-old beachfront property. Along the secluded rocky coast, mystic wooded landscapes, and lush inland pastures, a strange magic resonated as tourist season waned and autumn's serenity approached the Washington State island.

Dispelling secrets. Drawing like souls together.

Despite the stories of magic and connection, no one ever stayed in the isolated, single-story cottage for long. Complaints of strange sounds in the overgrown English garden, presences in the house and along the private beach—even piano music in the house.
