    – Reader review
  • "A fun set of stories with an interesting cast of characters. It will be interesting to see if the author allows the various sentient life forms in her interconnected series to meet. Highly recommended for syfy fans enjoying fun characters with a touch of romance."

    – Reader review
  • "I loved that the book had such a Star Wars space opera vibe. Nat is the female version of Han Solo and it all starts with a starship they need to fix (like the Millennial Falcon). Loved it all."

    – Reader review
  • "Fun, exciting, fast paced! Nat is trying to make it in the world, relying on her thief instincts of self-preservation. She is tough, smart and resourceful which is a lot of fun to watch."

"Are you ready to get to work?"

She frowned. "I have been working."

"Work on the ship."

Was he trying to pick a fight with her? Or was she just irritable? Either way, her ruff was up. "Not if you're going to order me around."

He took a step closer, the light from the lanterns reflecting in his dark eyes, making them glow. "You sure about that?"

Okay, still terrifying. But she held her ground. "Yes."

He didn't move, but his expression softened a fraction. "You look tired."

The comment caught her off guard. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means you look tired. How long have you been up?"

"None of your—"

"Forget it." He held up a hand. "I was just making an observation. You look like you could use some sleep."

She eyed him warily. "So?"

"So maybe you should take a break."

"I bet you'd like that, wouldn't you? Leave you alone to—"

"To what, Natasha?" Anger crept into his voice. "What exactly do you think I'd do?"

"I don't know. That's the point." She fisted her hands at her sides. "And what about you? Do you still sleep? Or did you give that up along with everything else?" The comment came out with a bite.

The tendons in his jaw flexed. "Yes, I sleep."

"Good. Why don't you go take a nap?"

He stared at her for a long moment. "I have a better idea. Why don't you show me your plans for the electrical repairs."

"But you don't know anything about electrical." Or anything else having to do with keeping a ship running.

"I do now."

"Oh." So in addition to becoming a mercenary, he'd also picked up practical skills. That was… good?

"Fine. We'll work on the electrical."

"And then we'll take a break for a few hours."

"All of us?"

"Yes, all of us. We'll need to figure out sleeping arrangements, anyway."

Which could give him a chance to get the drop on her.

The look he shot her confirmed he knew what she was thinking.

She lifted her chin. "Where were you planning to sleep?"

"In one of the crew cabins."

"Fine. We will, too."

"Fine."

He pivoted on his heel and stalked up the dune.

She snatched up the empty drawstring bags and followed. Oh yeah, this was going to work out great.
